 |
Keisuke Itō edited a picture book entitled Nihon Shokubutsu Zusetsu (Illustrated Guide to Japanese Plants). It was published in 1874. The fifty pictures of plants were drawn by Yuruzu itō who used the European style of realistic drawing to depict his subjects. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Both the plants’ Japanese names and scientific names were added to the drawings. Many of these names have changed since then and the cuurent names are given below the pictures.
